Penny and Fred

For us, Windy Gap has everything for the outdoor family and more. We fell in love with it on our first visit and it is now a firm family favourite as our UK based holiday destination. It offers tranquillity, easy access to nature and freedom for the kids and dog to explore. Margaret and Paul are the perfect hosts. They keep a discrete distance and yet manage to make you feel so welcome. We have enjoyed many moments with them. We have yet to be bored. It provides a break from modern life and encourages the children to try new (old) activities from Chess to Tennis, Cards to bike riding and board games. They love it, and enjoy a very diverse knowledge of nature including bramble picking, pond sieving, kite flying, swimming in the sea and dune busting. If Windy is not enough for you then Southport is a great place to explore and offers everything the family needs or wants from a resort holiday. Local amenities are plentiful and Asda and many food outlets deliver to the door. Formby and Liverpool are close by and there are plenty of National Trust places to visit, including Freshfields which is part of the same woodland/dune system. If you want peace and tranquillity within a woodland setting you can’t go wrong. It feels like you are enjoying a piece of history, and I know our children will continue to use it with their children. I can’t wait for next time.
